The class has been so much fun!  Out of respect for us that are taking the class, I will not provide technique details, but I will provide details about the finishing touches following each picture frame.  Click here for class information.

Good morning blog friends. How are you?  The weather remains bone chilling here in Minnesota. Temperatures dropped below zero Sunday and have yet to rebound. Low temperatures combined with sustained winds has created dangerous windchill’s. Today’s featured tag includes warm thoughts of Spring which I truly believe really is just around the corner.  The tag’s feature dragonfly image is from Stampers Anonymous Classics #1 stamp set.

Dragonfly Journey Tag

Dragonfly Journey Tag

Tag Features:

Background of manila tag was first lightly inked with Vintage Photo Distress Ink by Ranger.

Background of tag was then stamped with Ranger Collage Glue Stick and heat set afterwards till no longer tacky.  Stamp used is Stampers Anonymous Wallpaper & Wood by Tim Holtz.

Next, I lightly applied Walnut Stain Distress Ink by Ranger to further enhance the wood grain background.

I then used Versamark Embossing ink and Ranger’s Black Superfine Detail Embossing Powder to stamp background sentiments from Stampers Anonymous Just Thoughts stamp set by Tim Holtz.

Next, I used Versamark Embossing ink and Ranger’s Black Superfine Detail Embossing Powder to stamp the dragonfly from Stampers Anonymous Classics #1 stamp set by Tim Holtz onto a scrap of Kraft card stock.

I then applied various Distress Inks by Ranger for Tim Holtz: Peeled Paint, Salty Ocean, Vintage Photo, and Walnut Stain.

Next, I used a Tonic Distresser tool to distress the edges of both the tag and the dragonfly. I enhanced the distressed edges with Peeled Paint Distress Ink by Ranger.

Final Assembly:

Applied dragonfly image to tag using pop dots.

Attached Ideaology findings for interest: philosophy tag, mini pin, paper clip, file tab, and plaquette. Plaquette was colored with Adirondack Alcohol Inks: Lettuce, Ginger, and Sailboat Blue.

Lastly, used a length of Stampin’ Up seam binding ribbon colored with Faded Jeans and Peeled Paint Distress Stains by Ranger. Attached to tag along with a length of coarse jute string.

Hope you enjoyed today’s tag.  Thank you for stopping by. Please stop back again as I have a special blog feature in store for February (the reason why I have been a bit quiet here in posting).  Have a great day and please feel free to leave me a comment about your thoughts on today’s featured tag.

Good afternoon everyone.  How is your week going?  Today, I have my version of Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2012 for November to share with you.

Tim Holtzs 12 Tags of 2012: November Entry

My Entry for Tim Holtz’s 12 Tags of 2012: November

Click here to see and read Tim Holtz’s tutorial in order to make this month’s tag.

My tag above includes a few variations from Tim’s.  In lieu of the the fall foliage he used in the lower right hand corner, I included a small pumpkin instead.  Pumpkin was die cut out of Kraft Core card stock using Tim’s mini pumpkin Movers & Shapers die. I distressed the pumpkin and added Orange Marmalade Distress Ink to enhance the pumpkin’s color.  I tied a small piece of jute string to the pumpkin’s stem and added a Vintaj leaf cluster. I applied a small amount of Moss Vintaj Patina paint to the pumpkin’s leaves for added color.

Tim’s tag did not include any ribbon tie embellishments.  I instead chose to add a Vintaj trinket leaf cluster and an Ideaology type charm to the tag’s ribbon tie.  I attached the embellishments with a Ideaology trinket pin.

This tag was a lot of fun and as usual was chocked full of new ideas and techniques to try. Come join the fun.  Upload your entry to his site for a chance to win some great goodies.

Thank you so much for stopping by.  I will be back on Friday with another inspiring project idea. Have a great week.

Michelle

Good Monday morning to everyone.  How was your weekend?  Our’s was a mixed bag of good things.  We finalized our initial plans with our contractor so he can begin framing our unfinished basement, I finished up last minute fall chores, and stocked up on holiday colored card stock at Archiver’s buy one get one incredible sale.  I must admit, I have never seen so many people crammed into a little 2 foot wide aisle before.  Fellow shoppers were pleasant and we all walked away with a great deal.  I also had time to catch up on my Compendium of Curiosities II challenges.  This week’s challenge entry includes this week’s and last week’s techniques rolled into one fun tag.  Linda Ledbetter over at Studio L3 is the host.  This week’s sponsor is The Funkie Junkie boutique.

Compendium of Curiosities II Challenge Entry Weeks 26 & 27

Compendium of Curiosities II Challenge Entry for Weeks 26 and 27

This tag was so much fun to make.  For this tag, I followed the instructions for two techniques in Tim Holtz’s book, Compendium of Curiosities Volume II.  The first technique (last week’s technique) is called Krumpled Kraft Suede. Instructions are on page 40. This was a completely new technique for me and boy what an amazing technique it is.  It was so much fun.  I kept doing it over and over for a total of four times, each time in a different color. Colors used for the tags were Mustard Seed/Crushed Olive, Broken China, Vintage Photo, and Picket Fence.  I love the resulting feel of the tags afterwards. It is hard to believe it is paper and not suede.

Afterwards, I picked out various stamps to create a collage.  Stamps are Tim Holtz by Stampers Anonymous and were stamped with Ranger’s Jet Black Archival Ink. I added several Idealogy embellishments: Pen Nib, Films Strip, Tissue Tape, Muse Tokens, Mini Paper Clip, and a Plaquette.  The optical lens in the center is from Red Lead.  The second technique (this week’s technique) is called Alcohol Ink Palette, page 52. I applied various colors of Alcohol Ink to the filmstrip, optical lens, and the plaquette. This gave each of the elements a vintage, aged feel.

I am pleased with the results and love the eclectic elements included in this tag.  I hope you do too. I am glad that I could catch up on my challenges.  Each technique is fun as well as a great learning experience. I encourage you to enter yourself, entry deadline is Thursday evening.  Come join the fun.  Have a great day everyone!  Thank you for stopping by.

Good evening everyone.  How was your week?  Today, I have another Paperie In Bloom inspired project to share, a set of chrysanthemum memo boards.  For those of you who are first time visitor’s to Scrap N Grow, Paperie In Bloom is an ongoing monthly feature where I showcase a different bloom on or about the first of each month.  Then throughout the month, I sprinkle in additional projects that highlight the bloom of the particular month.  October’s Paperie In Bloom is the chrysanthemum.

Paperie In Bloom: October 2012 Altered Chrysanthemum Memo Boards

Paperie In Bloom: October 2012 Chrysanthemum Memo Board #1

Paperie In Bloom: October 2012 Altered Chrysanthemum Memo Boards

Paperie In Bloom: October 2012 Chrysanthemum Memo Board #2

Today’s memo boards were inspired by the leftover spoons from making my chrysanthemum mirror. Click here to view that post.

Each chrysanthemum memo board is actually an altered rat trap.  Yes, a rat trap. This is not my original idea.  I have seen several altered mouse trap projects on several people’s blogs as well as on Pinterest. While, I did purchase a few mouse traps, I used rat traps in today’s featured projects.

To begin, I used a pliers to remove the artificial cheese and the pin used to set the trap. Afterwards, I applied a base coat of Kaisercraft Mocha acrylic paint to the base.  This covered up the trap’s rat graphics.  Next, I stenciled and applied a few textures to each of the traps. I then perused my stash for potential trinkets. In the end, I decided to make two different memo board styles: one functional, and the other, artful.

Both flowers were made from cheap, white plastic spoons. Petals (spoons) were painted on both sides with Windsor & Newton Acrylic paint, Yellow Ochre, and Burnt Sienna. I purposely did not prime the spoons so that the paint color would be translucent.  Next, I die cut and painted 2- 2.5 inch circles from Tim Holtz’s Ideaology’s Grunge Paper. I used this circle for the flower’s base. Once my spoon petals were dry, I adhered petals to base using a hot glue gun. Note: I offset each row until it appeared that there was no more room to add additional spoons as the space had become to small.  Though there was no room to add another row of spoons, there was still a significant space remaining in the flower’s center.  After a bit of brainstorming, I decided to make a center bud for each flower out of card stock.

The flower centers are made from Bazzill card stock.  I punched out several McGill’s large pear Paper Blossoms shapes. Afterwards, I painted both sides of each flower’s petal’s a coordinating color to match spoon petals. Once dry, I used McGill’s 8mm ball stylus to mold each petal.  Once molded, I used Inkessentials Glossy Accents to adhere petals. Again, I offset each layer of petals. I think I used 20 petals for each bud. Once dry, I glued the bud to the center of the flower using E6000 adhesive.

While waiting for the E6000 to dry, I stamped the front piece of 3M Post It paper pad with a sentiment from Tim Holtz and Stampers Anonymous.  The sentiment was stamped with Jet Black Ranger Archival ink. Next, I applied Vintage Photo around the perimeter of the note pad and then adhered the Post It note pad to the bottom half of one of the traps. As I mentioned earlier, I decided to make the other trap an artful collection of garden themed trinkets.  I listed the items I used below. All trinkets were adhered with Inkessentials Glossy Accents.

Butterfly- Memory Box Die

Garden Note Card- Crafty Secrets

Heart Bingo Piece- Maya Road

Hinge Clip, Memo Pins, and Pen Nib- Ideaology

Flower Pot- Michael’s. Pot ‘s patina- Vintaj Patina Paint by Ranger

Floral Foam- Michael’s

GROW letters- Cosmo Cricket

Watering Can- Create For Less online store

I had fun making these altered rat traps and have other inspiring ideas for future projects. Thank you so much for stopping by.  Please feel free to leave a comment and let me know if you have altered a rat or mouse trap.  Have a great night and see you again soon.

Good morning everyone.  I hope your weekend went well.  Today’s featured project is a Halloween configurations shadow box I made last year for a gift.  At the time I made this, I had not previously ever had made a shadow box. Today’s project was originally designed by Annette Green.  I found her shadow box after performing a Google search of configuration shadow box ideas. Her shadow box stood out!!!!  I really loved the elements she used and how she had arranged them.  It is such a rare occasion that I see a project and nearly copy it, but I did on this one.  I did hesitate to post this shadow box for this reason. I contemplated and asked a few seasoned bloggers their opinion.  They suggested for me to go ahead and post it as long as I gave credit to the original creator and provide appropriate links to their website.  They added, it is really free advertising for the creator as well as a compliment.  So without further ado, below is my slightly altered version of Annette Green’s Halloween configurations shadow box complete with links and design credit.

I love Annette’s choice of miniatures and the overall spookiness of her box’s elements.  Her blog post featuring this box can be found here. Annette was generous and provided links and information of each miniature she used.  I followed most of the links and a altered a few things, but my box closely resembles her.  Please visit Annette’s website as she is a very creative person and has amazing talent.

The process to make a shadow box including this one was quite tedious.  I learned a lot while following Annette’s assembly. I have since purchased several more Halloween miniatures and currently am working on a couple other Halloween shadow boxes of my own design.   I will feature those later this month.  Below is a garden themed configurations shadow box I designed and completed earlier this year for Studio L3′s Compendium of Curiosities II weekly challenge.

Unrelated to today’s post.  I recently discovered a newsletter glitch from my subscription feed service, Feedblitz.  Apparently, some of you were receiving multiple mailings for each post. I apologize  for this inconvenience  Upon learning about this, I contacted Feedblitz support right away.  Their incredible customer support team walked me through merging the two mailing lists together.  I was completely unaware that there were even two lists to begin with. Everything should be corrected now.  Everyone who subscribes to my feed should only receive one email each time a new post is published.  If you do continue to receive duplicate mailings, please email right away at michelle@scrapngrow.com as I do not want to upset or clutter anyone’s inbox with duplicate emails.

Thank you so much for taking time to stop by.
